About MdM: Caring and witnessing
MdM (Médecins du Monde) is an international humanitarian organisation providing medical care to the most vulnerable populations affected by war, natural disasters, disease, famine, poverty and exclusion, those who do not have access to health care, those who the world is gradually forgetting.
MdM acts beyond medical care by giving a voice to vulnerable people all over the world. We draw on our experience on the ground to bear witness to obstacles to health care and to advocate for change. Because health is not a luxury, it is a human right.
MdM in the Middle East
MdM is present in the Middle East where the organisation brings a humanitarian response in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Yemen.
In general, our interventions are following these principles:
- Alignments to national and humanitarian response plans.
- Provision of a Primary Healthcare package including Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) as well as Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
- A balanced approach which integrates life-saving activities and resilience-building support in environments characterized by protracted crises.
- Multiple partnerships in highly polarized settings.
- Capacity building of local partners and support to national healthcare systems.
- Contribution to the strengthening of the countries’ health information system.
- Link with academia and research institutes in order to produce evidence-based publications.
- Advocacy on violations of International Humanitarian Law and barriers in accessing healthcare services.
